The relative "twist" between the two staircases is clearly visible here. The two long Strips journalling the Crankhandles have each been twisted (plastically deformed to the required extent) prior to assembly. All Crankhandle shafts are normal to their respective locations of the Strips through which they pass.
Multi-Purpose Gears are ideal here where the slight angular differences between them, one to the next, is of no consequence. Regular gears could be a tad less obliging. Each Gear is driving a long Crankhandle which is in turn doing useful work - there are no idlers here!
The return rails at each end have used Meerlu (Jack Parsisson) Strip stock, cut to length and curved as required. They happen to be 25 and 19 holes long!
