NFGC First trial # 26b pinion finished
-Won't try a 3/4" face pinion again with this setup - had to move the blank halfway through the feed. Took a bit deeper on the top half than I bargained for, but it looks worse than it operates/ measures. Far better than the plastic kosher ones I tried in the first prototype. From here on only 1/2" face blanks will enter this configuration of the mill. Decent enough result to come to use in the NFGC MkII, though. Overestimated the rigidity of the hob & feed setup - I thought, that being a civil servant, rigidity would come with the territory. There´s room for improvement, so I´ll be back. Cheapness rules! - Total money spent so far: app 20 bucks for a metre of 4mm Ag-steel axle. // 4 hours after posting this pic, I realized the reason for my bad gut feeling in this first try-out: -The cutter revs are WAY outta line - should be 2500 rpm instead of the current 85! No wonder the finish of the gear teeth is so crummy... So - it seems my hands and brain won't be idle in the coming week...
