Vancouver lot-May 2016
Back in April an ad appeared in the excellent "Collector's Corner" section of Melvyn Wright's website...I am sure you have all been to the site and shopped:D I replied to the ad that showed a bunch of dark red/green meccano and a nice grey/ni GRB right in the centre! Turns out the lot was almost in my back yard (just one province over to the west). The guy was taking bids and I just so happened to make a good enough offer to secure it. It came in May of 2016 and I was quite surprised at the amount of meccano that was actually there! The shipping carton weighed nearly 60 lbs! I found inside (when all sorting was done): --a nearly complete 1928 #5 outfit --a complate 1928 special inventor's set --a 1928ish grey/ni GRB complete and never apart! --a very large selection of spare parts that were apparently bought at a dealer as the quantities are in dealer pack numbers in multiples of 6 or 3. The represent what a lad would buy given certain financial advantages that most in Canada never had! All the parts seem to be from 1928/29 era and even the nickel parts such as the hub disc may have been leftover stock at the dealer at that time. Flay girders, odd sized girders, flat plates, special parts such as healds and dredger buckets, special gears such as bevel and gear wheels, etc were bought to add to his #5 set and maybe the special inventor's set was bought at the same dealer at that time too! The meccano had not much use and was stored for decades until sold to me recently! I have taken a few pics of the lot and put it in a gallery:
