Charles had fashioned his large crane upon the YD 171 Floating Crane featured in “Prototypes”, (MM Spring 81).
His model, to 1/72nd scale, stood a mere 6ft high, and included 10 movements, each with its own motor (2 PDU‘s, 8 Crane type).
These were slew, (luff, 3 trolleys and 5 hoists, all controlled from a switch panel connected to the model by a multi-core umbilical cable, thus enabling one to carefully manipulate the load from water level.
