Gallopers - Clive Hine
Clive Hine still continues with his large fairground models.
Clive's model is based on a set of three-abreast gallopers built by Messrs. Savage of Kings Lynn.
The model includes a centre engine, 36 horses set on 12 sections - now you chaps who require centre holes on even hole strips, sort that out.
The model is driven by a 12-volt windscreen wiper motor, the speed of the horses can be increased if necessary, this does tend to give a more realistic appearance. This is done by an electro-mechanical programmer built into the centre section Each horse carries the name of a Guild member.
This model is 5‘ - 6' in diameter and approximately 24" high, the crown head is an engineering feat in itself, each of the twelve arms carries a 7/8" bevel gear and 3/4" flanged wheel as its roller. .I‘m not sure how many 57 toothed gears are used, I counted 24 in the decorations.
The model can be dismantled into sections and packed into a box for travelling purposes.
This is the best set of gallopers I have seen built with Meccano.
