Mike Edkins' Descending Pendulum Clock

Photo taken by Michael J. Walker

This clock falls into the "Novelty Class" as the time keeping is in the order of plus or minus five minutes over its 24 hour running period. The original design of the clock was featured in the Horological Journal of November 1989.
To allow the mechanism to be seen from all angles, it is mounted on a low stand, which gives the clock a total running time of 17 hours.
In this design of clock mechanism the driving weight is also the pendulum, the special design of the fusee pays off the weight line at a constant rate. Allowing the clock to show the correct time as the period of the pendulum gets slower as it descends.
