...I renounced to use #10 fish plates at front end of the #5 strips. Regarding the rubber band, it´s clear that they were introduced in sets much later (maybe 1934?), but then again, the rubber band was patented in England by Stephen Perry in 1845, and could surely be acquired separately at any local shop for household goods.
