Overall view

I started off following Douglas Carson's original design. When I got to the inclined track I followed the spirit of Rob Mitchell's simplifications. The outer rail is still well supported by the underlying strips and girders, but the inner rail is only supported by double angle strips attached to the outer rail.

The changes that I made to the inclined track meant that this version used more 1-1/2" x 1/2" double angle strips than were included in a mid 50s No. 8 set. A couple of 9-1/2" strips were also used in place of built up strips in the original design (no 9-1/2" strips were included in a mid 50s No. 8 either). Finally, I used a couple of non Meccano parts. A 6-1/2" strip and angle girder were used to support the right hand side of the track.

If the post-war Meccano outfits 7/8 instructions manual was to be re-written today, this entertaining and attractive model would be one of my hot favourites for inclusion.

A ball roller usually relies on many manually bent and curved parts in its track, but from what I can see, you have not resorted to this strategy.

The parts thus remain undamaged, looking good, and ready for building into the next construction.
