CMC Meeting, March 08

The next meeting of the Christchurch Meccano Club is on 4th April.

The challenge

Last month's challenge was to make a model on the theme of "Automotive". A very wide-ranging theme that allowed all sorts of models.

Brian came up with a cavalcade of racing cars, reflecting the ages of Meccano. From left to right you can see a Sunbeam Nautilus from 1910, Bluebird IV (1935), a 1950's BRM V16, a 1970's McLaren, and a 1990's dragster (from the modern 20 model outfit).

The CMC Challenge – "Planning"

A completely different challenge this month, geared towards the Meccano Exhibition in Easter 2009. The challenge is to present your ideas at the Meccano club meeting next month.

You might have already started building, or you might not have decided anything at all yet. The idea of this challenge is to help us all concentrate on presenting a really spectacular range of models for the Exhibition, and show off what Christchurch can do.

The Competition

At the CMC meeting in April, everyone will be invited to make a short presentation to the rest of the club, describing what model (or what type of model) they intend to build for the Exhibition in 2009. As a guide, try to bring enough to fill five minutes or so. You might want to bring along prototype photographs, diagrams, and blueprints, or if you are intending to base the model on a modelplan, perhaps a copy of those plans and photographs of various different examples of the model. For non-models, perhaps a sketch of how you see your exhibit(s) being presented.

It is hoped that by sharing this information, we might all be able to help each other with further information, advice about building a specific model, pitfalls to be aware of. Some of us might get inspiration for a different model after listening to others’ ideas. But most of all, there are only 12 months left, and you might be surprised how quickly that passes, especially if you need to obtain more parts or restore old ones!

After the presentations, all club members present will vote for their favourites. The one with the most votes will win. In the event of a tie, the most senior disinterested club member will have the casting vote.

The April meeting

The next meeting is Friday 4th April, 2008, at St Johns Church, Ferry Road, Woolston.  Bring a friend!
