Meccano Three Wheel Hand Car Velocipede For O Gauge
This is a Meccano model of a Three Wheel Hand Car that was used for inspection of track in U.S.A. by railroads. This model uses three one inch pulley wheels, a pair of which is powered by a Meccano magic clockwork motor, with which it takes about one and a half rounds of the O gauge track. Balancing with three wheels on the track was a problem but was overcome. Using one inch pulley wheels on the O gauge track is also not easy, but eventually worked. I was trying to use initially 20b flanged wheels, but then I wanted to use parts only belonging to a No. 1 or 2 set. However, I did add a coupling part number 63 to connect to the lever. This model shows the gang man operating the Hand Car with one hand.

I can well imagine the patience required to complete this charming model, then successfully run it on Hornby 0 Gauge track via its three 1" pulleys. |
