Meccano Diesel Shunting Locomotive from 1947 No. 4 Manual Modified for O gauge
ThIs is a Meccano Diesel Shunting locomotive made from the 1947 No. 4 Manual and subsequently modified to run on O gauge track, using only those parts that would have available in that set. The original model is not meant for running on rail track and has No. 187 tinplate roadwheels powered by a magic motor, which can be seen in the first few seconds on a video that can be seen on the link below. As there are no flanged wheels in a number 4 set, I have tried to use the one inch pulley wheels on the track. I initially tried to power a set of 4 one inch pulleys, to run on O gauge track, using the magic motor, but it did not run more than a foot and a half. So I decided to replace the magic motor with a Meccano No. 1 clockwork motor. As this set does not have a half inch pulley with boss, I put the one one inch pulley wheels directly on the clock work motor. It is not easy to balance the locomotive on the track, just using the pulley wheels, but somehow I managed.
